Human Reproduction

I have the absolute joy of having to teach human reproduction to year 7. It is nearly the end of the school year and as you can well imagine students are already going a little silly. Add into the mix the topic of Human Reproduction and we have a recipe for insanity. I have been searching for some videos that may be of use, try typing human reproduction into Google and prepare to be amazed, disgusted and enthralled in varying degrees.

Plants that move

The year 6 class will be covering 'plants that move' in the next lesson and so I absolutely had to show them carniverous plants. Now to convince my husband that he should lend me his terrarium to show the kids. For now a couple of vids from You Tube will have to do. You really can't go passed the David Attenborough Private Life of Plants snippets seen below.

Classification of plants

The year 6's have been looking at classification for the last few weeks and we have focused entirely on animals up until this point. We were lucky enough to have some tubs of taxidermied and other preserved animals to look at and classify. This week were are going to head into the school yard to classify some plants. I found a great lesson at at University of Georgia website it even has some printable slides for reference and templates for students to fill in the data they collect. No need to reinvent the wheel, this will be a great resource for my class.

Magnets

Magnets are on the agenda this week and I have found some great intro videos that will work well alongside our text and some experiment ideas too. Looks like fun times ahead.
